Sandman Set Photos Confirm Season 2 Filming Start

According to recent reports, production has commenced on the highly anticipated second season of the popular Netflix fantasy drama series, The Sandman. Set photos from the filming location have surfaced, confirming the start of filming.

The images captured Tom Sturridge, who portrays the lead character Lord Morpheus/Dream, on set. He was seen in his distinctive costume, engaging in a scene with an unidentified actor. Interestingly, the unknown character was attired in a ghostly white variation of Sturridge's outfit. The filming took place at the breathtaking Durdle Door landmark near Lulworth in Dorset. Although typically open to the public as it is privately owned, access was temporarily restricted to accommodate the Netflix production.

The Sandman is a critically acclaimed Netflix series based on the beloved DC Comics series of the same name, which was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg and originally published between 1989 and 1996. The first season, released in August 2022, encompassed 11 episodes that adapted the initial two story arcs of the comic, namely "Preludes & Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House," along with the first two issues of the third arc, "Dream Country." Season 1 delved into the narrative of Morpheus (portrayed by Sturridge), the enigmatic Dream King and one of the seven Endless, as he escaped captivity and embarked on a mission to restore balance and harmony to his ethereal realm known as the Dreaming.

What Do Fans Know About The Sandman Season 2?

Although Netflix announced the renewal of The Sandman for a second season in November 2022, specific details about the upcoming episodes have been kept under wraps. Neil Gaiman, the creator of the original comic series, has revealed that Season 2 will introduce two characters who did not appear in the first season: Wanda Mann, a groundbreaking transgender character from the comics, and Delirium, the youngest member of the Endless.

Leaked plot details have also hinted at an adaptation of the renowned "Brief Lives" story arc from the comics for Season 2. This storyline promises to offer intriguing developments and captivating narrative twists for fans of the series. Additionally, Peter Friedlander, the head of U.S. and Canada scripted series at Netflix, has indicated that the release strategy for The Sandman Season 2 might differ from the traditional binge-watch format. Friedlander mentioned that they are considering various options, such as releasing episodes in chunks, similar to what was done with Stranger Things Season 4 and The Witcher Season 3.

The Sandman Is Part of a Shared Universe

As of now, there have been no official announcements regarding any spinoffs of The Sandman. However, Netflix is set to welcome another DC Comics adaptation, Dead Boy Detectives, which will be situated within the same universe as The Sandman. Neil Gaiman, the co-creator of both comic series, confirmed this connection in April 2023, responding to a fan on Twitter and stating, "I think it's safe to say now" that Dead Boy Detectives and The Sandman coexist in the shared universe.

The first season of The Sandman is currently available for streaming on Netflix. As of yet, no release date has been established for Season 2.
