Squid Game Adds Eight New Cast Members to Season 2

As production gears up for the second season of the Korean survival drama series Squid Game, the lineup of actors continues to expand.

Netflix recently unveiled the addition of eight more cast members for Squid Game Season 2, joining the existing talented ensemble. The streaming giant took to Twitter to announce the new additions, which include Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an. Accompanying the announcement was a photo of the newcomers dressed in black, standing against a vibrant hot pink backdrop. While the involvement of most of these performers in Squid Game Season 2 had not been previously known, rumors circulating online had accurately predicted Jo Yu-ri's participation in the production.

This cast reveal from Netflix follows a similar announcement made earlier this month. On June 17, the streaming platform confirmed the participation of Yim Siwan, Kang Haneul, Park Sunghoon, and Yang Donggeun in the upcoming season of Squid Game. However, Netflix has remained tight-lipped about the specific roles these actors will portray. As for details about the plot of the second season, information remains scarce at this stage. Nevertheless, fans can look forward to the return of the original stars, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byunghun, Wi Hajoon, and Gong Yoo.

With the continued expansion of its cast and the return of beloved actors, Squid Game Season 2 is shaping up to be an eagerly anticipated continuation of the intense survival drama.

Squid Game Season 2 Gears Up for Principal Photography

Squid Game Season 2's shooting window has also been revealed to the public. Lee Jung-jae, in a recent interview, disclosed the production schedule for the second season, hinting that filming will commence soon. He also suggested that Squid Game Season 2 will have a more ambitious scope compared to its predecessor. "Filming for Squid Game 2 is set to begin in the summer and will likely last for approximately 10 months," Lee revealed. "While Season 1 took us around 10 months to complete, we faced delays due to COVID-19. Considering Season 2's larger scale, it will probably require more time to finish."

The expanded scale of Squid Game Season 2 likely reflects Netflix's confidence in the series, which became the streaming platform's most-watched show after its premiere in September 2021. There are even reports suggesting that Netflix is contemplating an American adaptation of Squid Game. According to these reports, Netflix executives are keen on having David Fincher, the director of Seven, helm the remake. However, Netflix has not officially commented on these rumors, and it remains unclear whether Fincher has entered discussions regarding the supposed project.

All nine episodes of Squid Game Season 1 are currently available for streaming on Netflix. The second season is expected to debut on the platform sometime in 2024.
