Daredevil Stuntman Blasts Matt Murdock's MCU Portrayal: 'It Looks Bad'

Chris Brewster, a renowned stuntman known for his work on Netflix's Daredevil and various other Marvel projects, didn't hold back his opinion on Matt Murdock's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While numerous fans eagerly anticipate Daredevil: Born Again, Brewster expressed his disappointment with how the Devil of Hell's Kitchen is being portrayed in the expansive superhero franchise. During a recent episode of the Ikuzo Unscripted podcast, Brewster candidly shared his thoughts on the matter. "In my opinion, now that the character is under the control of the MCU, they are really doing a disservice to it," the experienced stuntman voiced. "If you watch She-Hulk, you can see that they have transformed Daredevil into a caricature. Everything is animated, and it lacks quality." Brewster, who possesses an extensive background working on Daredevil's action sequences, clarified that he isn't opposed to using visual effects (VFX). However, he believes that the MCU takes it to an extreme.

"While I appreciate the use of CG to enhance real movement, it becomes problematic when there is no genuine movement involved," Brewster explained. "It simply turns into a cartoon with no substance or impact. What made the action in Daredevil truly exceptional was its visceral nature. You could feel what Charlie Cox's portrayal was conveying, both through his performance and being physically present in the action." He concluded by expressing his desire for the return of practical effects, including the iconic one-take shots, which defined Daredevil's fight scenes and hopes to see them make a comeback in Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil's Return

Matt Murdock's appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been met with an outpouring of praise from devoted fans of the character, who were simply elated to see actor Charlie Cox reprise his most iconic role. Cox initially made a triumphant return as Daredevil in a brief cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which served as a precursor to his expanded role in She-Hulk. The overwhelmingly positive response to his return ultimately led to the greenlighting of a full-fledged revival series titled Daredevil: Born Again.

In this highly anticipated Disney+ series, Cox will once again don the mantle of Daredevil alongside fellow returning cast members Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, better known as the ruthless Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, the relentless vigilante known as The Punisher. While specific details about the series remain under wraps, D'Onofrio has hinted that the revival will strike a balance between familiarity and innovation, promising to surprise viewers with a fresh and intelligent approach. "It's both familiar and entirely new. We're going to astonish everyone with it. And yes, it's going to be incredibly cool," the actor confidently stated. As production progresses, fans can expect further updates and announcements regarding Daredevil: Born Again, even though an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
