Final Fantasy 16 Has Already Sold 3 Million Copies But Lags Behind Previous Games

Final Fantasy 16 has achieved a significant milestone within its first week of release, according to Square Enix. The latest installment in the beloved franchise has already surpassed three million copies sold, solidifying its success. However, when comparing the sales performance to the previous two games in the series, Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII: Remake, there are a few key factors to consider.

In terms of raw numbers, Final Fantasy 16 falls behind both Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII: Remake. The latter achieved the three million mark in just three days, while the former reached five million on its launch day. Nevertheless, this comparison alone doesn't provide the complete picture. It's essential to acknowledge that Final Fantasy 15 was available on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while FF16 is an exclusive title for PlayStation 5. Consequently, the potential customer base for FF16 is considerably smaller than that of FF15. Additionally, it is worth noting that the PS4 enjoys immense popularity as one of the best-selling consoles of all time. Even though Final Fantasy VII: Remake was exclusive to the PS4, the substantial user base of the console certainly contributed to its faster sales compared to Final Fantasy 16.

Undoubtedly, Final Fantasy 16 is poised to become one of the best-selling games in history, supported by its exceptional critical reception. While it may not surpass the extraordinary sales figures achieved by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it is expected to secure a prominent position on the year-end sales charts.

Currently available exclusively on PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy 16 has garnered widespread acclaim across various review scores. In our initial impressions, we placed particular emphasis on the game's combat, expressing our excitement with each new encounter. Our sentiments align with numerous other reviewers, indicating that Square Enix has harnessed the momentum to deliver a remarkable year for the esteemed company.
