Director Kiki Manrique, known for her work on Harley Quinn, has officially announced the commencement of production for the highly anticipated fifth season of the series. The news was shared through a tweet on June 27, where Kiki Manrique, a story artist and director, confirmed her return to Warner Bros. to take on her directorial responsibilities for the new season. To accompany the announcement, an exciting artwork featuring Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, two beloved characters from Gotham City, was revealed.

How Harley Quinn Achieved Her Own Show

Based on the iconic DC character of the same name, who made her debut in Batman: The Animated Series before transitioning to the world of comics, HBO's Harley Quinn premiered in 2019 and quickly garnered both critical and audience acclaim. The series features the talented voice acting of Kalie Cuoco as Harley, along with an ensemble cast that includes Lake Bell as Ivy, Ron Funches as King Shark, Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho, and Alan Tudyk as Clayface. The announcement of Season 5 entering production comes shortly after confirming that Harley Quinn Season 4 is set to premiere sometime this summer on the newly rebranded MAX streaming platform.

Co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker has previously provided insights into what fans can expect from the fourth season. The Season 3 finale saw Ivy joining the infamous Legion of Doom, and Schumacker revealed that Season 4 would place a stronger emphasis on Ivy's character development compared to previous seasons. In February, co-showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern delved into the array of concepts and characters featured in the Harley Quinn Valentine's Day special. Their goal was to incorporate as many humorous jokes and gags as possible, with Halpern explaining, "We threw in every bad joke we could think of." Furthermore, Halpern revealed that the episode was crafted to explore toxic relationships, delving into the lingering effects of past relationships and how they manifest within healthier dynamics. "What are the negative habits that carry over from previous relationships? How do they manifest themselves in a positive relationship?" Halpern reflected, highlighting the central themes of the episode.
