REPORT: The Sandman Casts Norse Gods for Season 2

According to recent reports, it has been revealed that Netflix's highly anticipated series, The Sandman, is set to include Norse gods in its ensemble cast for Season 2, which is currently in production.

The streaming platform is reportedly in the process of casting five actors to portray the powerful characters of Thor, Loki, Odin, King Auberon, and Queen Titania, all of whom will join Morpheus in the next chapter of The Sandman, as per What's on Netflix. Thor is described as a storm god, boasting a massive physique and a voice that resonates like thunder. He is known for his brusque nature, rudeness, and a quick temper that can flare up at any moment. As for the remaining four characters, their descriptions are being kept under tight wraps for now.

In the original graphic novel series by Neil Gaiman, Thor, Loki, and Odin were introduced during the "Season of Mists" arc. In this storyline, they paid a visit to Morpheus in the Dreaming, seeking to obtain the key to Hell in an effort to prevent Ragnarök. Notably, the depiction of these Norse gods in The Sandman comics differs from their Marvel counterparts. King Auberon and Queen Titania, on the other hand, are known as the rulers of the fairies. They made their debut during the "Dream Country" arc, appearing as esteemed guests of Morpheus during a performance of William Shakespeare's newest play.

The Sandman Season 2 Begins Production

Recent set photos have emerged online, confirming the start of production on Season 2 of Netflix's The Sandman. Tom Sturridge, dressed in an all-black attire, was spotted in the pictures, signaling his return as the lead character, Morpheus. The first season of the fantasy drama premiered in August 2022, nearly a year ago. Alongside Sturridge, other fan-favorite actors such as Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, and Donna Preston will reprise their roles as Death, Desire, Lucifer, Lucienne, and Despair, respectively.

In addition to the inclusion of Norse gods and the royal fairies, Season 2 of The Sandman is expected to introduce the remaining siblings of Dream's Endless family, namely Delirium, Destruction, and Destiny. The casting for these characters has yet to be announced. In November 2022, Neil Gaiman confirmed that Wanda Mann, a groundbreaking transgender character from the comics, will make her debut in the upcoming season. It remains uncertain if other Season 1 characters, such as Patton Oswalt's Matthew the Raven and Jenna Coleman's Johanna Constantine, will also return.

The Sandman revolves around the story of Morpheus, also known as Dream, who is the Lord of dreams and nightmares. The first season followed his journey to reclaim his kingdom and power after being held captive by an occult leader for over a century. While official plot details for Season 2 have not been disclosed, there are rumors suggesting that it may adapt the "Brief Lives" arc from the comics, with Delirium playing a significant role.

Season 1 of The Sandman is currently available for streaming on Netflix, while the release date for Season 2 is yet to be announced.
