WhatsApp Enhances Chats with the Addition of Video Messages

WhatsApp introduces a new connection option - video messages, which allow you to send video clips in your chats, similar to voice messages.

In the app, WhatsApp video messages are presented in circular format, offering an additional means to share direct responses in-stream.

As per WhatsApp's explanation: “Video messages are a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds. We think these will be a fun way to share moments with all the emotion that comes from video, whether it’s wishing someone a happy birthday, laughing at a joke, or bringing good news.”

This update will bring WhatsApp in line with other social and messaging platforms, offering video messaging as a standard feature, given that video communication has become the preferred interactive option in most apps.

To record a video message, you simply tap on the screen to switch to video mode and hold to begin recording the video.

“You can also swipe up to lock and record the video hands-free. Videos will play automatically on mute when opened in a chat, and tapping on the video will start the sound. Video messages are protected with end-to-end encryption to keep your messages secure.”

Indeed, the introduction of video messages could potentially result in cluttering your Camera Roll if you have downloads enabled. However, this feature offers another way to enhance connectivity within the app, presenting a wide range of potential uses.

Brand accounts could also leverage this feature effectively. By sending short videos, they can showcase product examples, provide explainers, offer previews, and potentially use it as an avenue for customer service within the app.

WhatsApp has stated that video messages will begin rolling out today and will be available to all users over the course of the next few weeks.
