Mortal Kombat 1 Director Teases New Characters

The first Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Kast is scheduled to take place on July 6, which is coming up this Thursday. While it hasn't been officially confirmed that new characters will be unveiled during the presentation, it is widely expected, especially following a recent tease from Ed Boon, the creative director of the series.

On Twitter, Boon shared that he and the team at NetherRealm Studios have another gameplay trailer in the works, which will be released soon. Although Boon doesn't explicitly mention the Kombat Kast, it is assumed that this trailer is either related to the Kombat Kast or will accompany it. Boon further hints that the trailer will feature reveals of both main and cameo fighters. However, this is the extent of specific information provided by Boon at this time.

As a reboot of the series, it is anticipated that Mortal Kombat 1 will primarily focus on returning characters rather than introducing brand new ones, with an emphasis on classic characters over more recent additions. The characters that have been revealed so far seem to align with this speculation.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for a global release on September 19, 2023, across various platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.

"NetherRealm has been putting out winner after winner for over a decade at this point and it doesn't seem like Mortal Kombat 1 is going to end that hot streak. Outside of simply shaping up to be another fantastic fighting game, though, what makes Mortal Kombat 1 so enticing is just how fresh it feels. This isn't simply a sequel/reboot that looks to expand slightly on what was seen in Mortal Kombat 11 and is instead a game that is looking to chart a new course for a series that has been around for 30 years. It remains to be seen if all of these big changes are for the better, but based on my own brief experience, it looks like Mortal Kombat 1 is finding a perfect balance between the new and the familiar."
