Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon Wants Scorpion in Super Smash Bros.

Longtime Mortal Kombat director Ed Boon has expressed his desire to see Scorpion or possibly Sub-Zero appear in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series. However, Nintendo has stated that it has concluded development for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and is not currently working on a new installment. If a future game were to be created, Boon has indicated his enthusiasm for including Mortal Kombat characters.

During a conversation with Axios, Boon discussed the possibility of his fighters joining the Super Smash Bros. roster. He mentioned that Nintendo has not approached NetherRealm Studios or WB Games to request a Mortal Kombat character for Smash Bros. If the situation were to change, Boon stated that his top choice would be Scorpion, without any hesitation. He also mentioned that if Nintendo were to request multiple fighters, Sub-Zero would be his second option. It's worth noting that Scorpion and Sub-Zero have been prominent figures in the Mortal Kombat series for a significant period, and Scorpion holds a special place as Boon's personal favorite character.

On the surface, it may seem unlikely for Mortal Kombat characters to appear in Super Smash Bros., considering that most fighters in the game originate from family-friendly franchises. Nevertheless, exceptions have been made in the past with characters like Bayonetta, Joker, and Solid Snake, who come from M-rated franchises. While it remains unknown if Nintendo would be willing to associate itself with the hyper-violent Mortal Kombat series, it is reassuring to know that Boon is open to the possibility if the opportunity were to arise.
