Pop Team Epic Creator Drops New Fan Art For Ghibli's How Do You Live

Studio Ghibli's highly anticipated film, How Do You Live, has made its debut in Japanese theaters. Despite the absence of trailers and promotional images, anime enthusiasts consider it to be one of the most significant anime releases of 2023, as it marks Hayao Miyazaki's final movie. Among the devoted fans are industry creators, with Bkuk Ookawa, the creator of Pop Team Epic, seizing the opportunity to share their perspective on the enigmatic Heron character featured in one of Studio Ghibli's most anticipated films.

Regarding Studio Ghibli's decision to withhold marketing materials for Miyazaki's last film, Hayao himself expressed his nervousness about not sharing any trailers or images, saying, "I wonder if it'll be okay without publicity. I am beginning to worry. I do believe in you, Mr. Suzuki, but I have concerns." Toshio Suzuki, the current President of Ghibli, recently provided further insight into this decision, stating, "Let's go with just this one poster for the marketing. No trailers, TV commercials, or newspaper ads at all. Deep down, I believe that moviegoers secretly desire a lack of information in this age of overwhelming data. I'm not sure if this approach will succeed, but personally, I have faith in it and that's what I'm aiming for."

Pop Team Epic's second season has recently concluded, leaving fans uncertain about the possibility of a third season for the anime adaptation featuring Popuko and Pipimi. While no official confirmation has been provided, Bkub Ookawa's manga continues to release new chapters, ensuring an abundance of source material for the television series to draw from if it decides to continue.

If you haven't had the opportunity to immerse yourself in the surreal comedy of Pop Team Epic, you can catch both seasons on Crunchyroll. Here's how the streaming service introduces the anime: "Crude, rude, and a little…cute? Get ready for the larger-than-life attitude of Popuko and Pipimi, the small and tall stars of Pop Team Epic! Based off the bizarre four-panel webcomic by Bkub Ookawa comes a comedy that'll throw you off with its out-there jokes and intense absurdity. You think you're ready for these girls? Think again, F#%**er!"
