During an interview with Collider, Gibson took a moment to commend the team responsible for the visual effects in the upcoming show. He eagerly shared his excitement for audiences to witness their interpretation of Eiichiro Oda's iconic Sea Kings. "Wow, I can't even put it into words. The sea beast is simply extraordinary. The special effects team has truly outdone themselves in bringing the sea beast to life. The action sequences are absolutely captivating," he expressed with genuine enthusiasm.

Netflix's Live-Action One Piece is a Massive Undertaking

Eiichiro Oda's masterpiece, One Piece, made its debut in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997. With well over 1,000 individual chapters, the story follows the adventures of Luffy and his pirate crew as they navigate the treacherous Grand Line in search of the elusive and legendary treasure. While Oda recently confirmed that One Piece has entered its final saga, he reassured readers that the epic conclusion will not occur anytime soon, keeping fans eager for more.

Although the extent of Netflix's adaptation of Oda's bestselling manga remains unclear, the streaming service has made a significant investment in the production of the first season. Reportedly, each episode boasts an astounding budget of $18 million, surpassing even the per-episode expenditure of HBO's Game of Thrones. Excitement builds as the titles for the first eight episodes were unveiled earlier this month.

The recently released trailer for the live-action series confirmed that One Piece is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform in late August, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what the new show has to offer. However, fan reactions have been mixed, with responses from Korean viewers ranging from finding it "cringe-worthy" to cautiously optimistic that it might surpass initial expectations.

For those interested in delving into the world of One Piece prior to the live-action debut, VIZ Media distributes Oda's manga in North America, while Toei Animation's anime adaptation is available on streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.
