The Venture Bros. Creators Pull Out of San Diego Comic-Con Amidst Actors' Strike

Amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the creators of The Venture Bros. have made the decision to withdraw their plans to participate in San Diego Comic-Con 2023. The popular animated series is set to make a comeback with a new movie that will serve as the grand finale of the entire show. Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim had originally scheduled an appearance for The Venture Bros. creators, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, at the upcoming Comic-Con to promote the highly anticipated film. However, the duo recently announced on social media that they will no longer be attending the event.

The new movie, titled The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, was initially planned for a world premiere screening during San Diego Comic-Con 2023, with the presence of cast and crew members. However, Doc Hammer took to Instagram to share a statement with fans, revealing that he and Jackson Publick would no longer be able to attend the screening. He expressed his disappointment, mentioning that he had already purchased tickets, prepared a tuxedo, and packed bags with pins and swag for fans. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike shattered their plans, leaving Hammer heartbroken and devastated.

Continuing his statement, Hammer emphasizes that standing by his union is not a choice but an obligation. He expresses solidarity with the actors and the union, stating that they are unified as one entity. Hammer acknowledges that going on strike is a last resort and a difficult decision. He criticizes the notion of benefiting from others' suffering while refusing to take part in the strike when there is nothing to lose and everything to gain. However, now that the strike jeopardizes his own plans, he experiences heartbreak for the third time. Hammer reflects on this moment in adulthood as a defining one, revealing that he identifies as a worker who cares for and stands alongside his fellow workers.

The statement concludes with Hammer's commitment to stand in solidarity with his union. He states his willingness to endure the hardships along with his fellow workers because he believes in the importance of what SAG-AFTRA is fighting for. Hammer expresses sincere gratitude to their fans for their support and understanding. He acknowledges that he and Jackson Publick created something special for the fans but ultimately stand proudly with the union's larger goals. As a result, they have made the decision to withdraw from San Diego Comic-Con. Hammer offers apologies to anyone who had planned to meet them and assures fans that they will have the opportunity to meet someday in the future, promising a thousand warm hugs and reiterating their love and appreciation.

It's worth noting that as of the current writing, The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart premiere screening is still listed on the San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel schedule.
